Bamboo pillows are fast gaining popularity in the market. Pillows are essential bed accessories that help to enhance comfort and relieve issues like back pains. They can be used both in the bedroom and in other places like on seats. Pillows are available in a wide variety depending on the brand, use, and type of material from which they are made. In this write-up, we look at types of pillow fills.

Types of Materials Used as Pillow Fills

The term pillow fills refer to the materials that are placed inside the pillows. The pillow fills are, therefore, responsible for the bulging of pillows. Different kinds of materials can be used as pillow fills. They include;

  • Memory Foam

Memory foam is the most common type of pillow fill material. This kind of material was established by NASA. It was primarily used in seat’s cushions. It is also commonly used inside mattresses. The main reason why this material is applied in such a way is the fact that it can mold. This means that it can adapt to the users’ body shape. It, therefore, helps to relieve the pressure as wouldn’t be the case with other materials. Research shows that this type of material is effective when it comes to inhibiting back, neck, and joint pains. Memory foam is available in a variety of thickness; hence can be used for different applications. A downside of memory foam is the fact that it tends to be costly.

  • Feather

Feather pillows are also quite common in the market. Most of the time, the feathers are sourced from the waterfowl. Feather pillows are not as expensive as other materials in the market because they are firmer. However, this feature does not take away from the fact that they are light and fluffy as well. However, unlike foam, they do not lose their shape faster. Another downside is the fact that the quills of the feathers when used consistently, tend to poke through the cover material of the pillows, a condition that can result in discomfort.

  • Latex

Latex, both in natural and synthetic form, is a popular kind of pillow fill in the market. One of the main advantages of latex is the fact that it is available in several forms. For instance, it can be used in its solid form as well as shredded. It is also more responsive than its counterparts and offers more lifting. However, the downsides of this kind of pillow fill are the fact that it is manufactured using harmful chemicals. It is also among the most expensive types. It is more expensive than memory foam. You can, however, always opt for natural latex, which is also more costly than the synthetic one. Regardless of its steep cost, it continues to gain popularity because it is quite durable.

Conclusion

The types of materials mentioned above are merely the most common. However, there are several other kinds of pillow fill materials like down (feathers that are plucked from the underbellies of waterfowl), polyester, wool, and cotton, to name a few. Water is also a type of pillow fill. However, it is among the least common.
